Qinghai Lake

Qinghai Lake is also known as Mtsho-sngon in Tibetan, which means "blue sea". It is located in the northwest of Qinghai Province, China. Qinghai Lake is both the largest inland lake and the largest saltwater lake in China.

Qinghai Lake is located in plateau district. The altitude is 3260 meters above sea level. Due to the high altitude, the climate is very cool. Even in hot summer days, the average temperature is only 15°C, which made the lake an ideal summer resort. Qinghai Lake has a quiet environment. The lake is surrounded by four high mountains. From the foot of the mountain to the lake, it is a vast stretch of grassland. In July and August is the most beautiful time of Qinghai Lake, when thousand acres of rape flowers blooming around the lake. The blue waves were surrounded by bright golden yellow.

The vast lake area covers over 4,400 square kilometers. The lake is boundless and ethereal. Surrounded by mountains, the lake is embraced by vast grasslands. The Bird Island is a famous attraction located in the west of Qinghai Lake. In spring and summer, it houses more than 100,000 migratory birds. If you are visiting Qinghai Lake around April and May, each year, you can't miss the sight of the bird paradise.

Best traveling time

The best time to travel around Qinghai Lake is June to August. If you want to visit Bird Island, it is best to visit in May. From mid-July to mid-August, it is the exquisite time to see rape flowers.
