Shaolin Temple

Shaolin Temple is located in the foothills of Songshan Mountain, Dengfeng City, Henan Province, China. It is the ancestral Chinese Zen Buddhism and is the prestigious Buddhist temple in China. It is also the birthplace of Shaolin Kung Fu. Today's Shaolin Temple is famous not only for its ancient Buddhist culture, but also for its superb and practical Shaolin Kung Fu.

Shaolin Temple was founded in 495 A.D. by the Emperor for Indian Buddhist Buddhabhadra who taught Hindu Buddhism. Shaolin Temple was very large in its peak period. Unfortunately, in 1928, The main buildings such as Tianwang Hall and the Great Buddha's Hall were all destroyed in the war. Only the Front Gate, Lixue Pagoda and the Thousand-Buddha Temple are left. The main buildings that we see today are all rebuilt over the next.

Since the movie "Shaolin Temple" was public show in the 1980s, Shaolin Kung Fu has become famous all over the world. Nowadays, as ordinary tourists, it is difficult to watch the Shaolin monks perform Kung Fu in the Shaolin Temple. Visitors can watch the Shaolin Kungfu performance at the Shaolin Temple Martial Arts Museum, about 700 meters east of the Shaolin Temple. Each performance takes about half an hour.
